On 30 April 2026 the exhibition “Big History” opened in the Museum Studio of the Irkutsk Regional Museum of Local History at 13 Karla Marksa Street. It is devoted to Bolshaya Street, from 1726, when a palisade began to be built on this spot, to 1920, when the street was renamed after Karl Marx.
About 50 photographs and documents from the museum’s collections are complemented by models of sledges and carts, weapons from the time of the palisade and of the Civil War, original and reconstructed Siberian costumes, merchants’ scales, abacuses, medical instruments, opera glasses and playbills. The themes of the exhibition are the first stone houses, coaching inns and workshops, the merchants’ trade in tea and colonial goods, and the street’s transformation into the centre of city life.
