A project by the Decembrist Museum and the Dahl Literary Museum about Russia in the 1810s–1820s, before 14 December 1825.
From 4 October 2025 to 1 February 2026 the Volkonsky memorial house hosted the exhibition “Nothing Is Decided Yet”, prepared together with the V. I. Dahl State Museum of the History of Russian Literature for the 200th anniversary of the Decembrist uprising. The curators were Marina Krasnova and Anna Shcherbakova.
The exhibition is about Russia in the 1810s–1820s — an era that ended on 14 December 1825 — and about the people of that time, rather than about the uprising and exile themselves. Its starting point was Leo Tolstoy’s original plan to write a novel about a Decembrist returning from exile, which later grew into “War and Peace”. Each hall is a “scene of the era”. The exhibits include personal belongings of the Decembrists, portraits, insignia of the secret societies, objects of noble everyday life, first editions of Romantic poetry and memoirs of participants in the War of 1812.
