It is proposed to turn the brick tower of 1911–1913, built by exiled Poles, into a visitor centre.

The charitable foundation “Baikal Shore of Hope” (director Natalya Chernakova) is developing a project for a visitor centre in the Slyudyanka water tower: plans include a museum of the Circum-Baikal Railway and creative workshops for children with disabilities. Architects, restorers, local historians, designers and schoolchildren are involved in the work.

The tower was built in 1911–1913 by exiled Poles and still supplies Slyudyanka with water. The brick building consists of two cylindrical volumes about 19 and 11 metres high; in 1980 it was listed as an architectural monument. The foundation has already won six grants for various restoration works. During clearing, rails with a tsarist-era stamp were found. There is no opening date yet — the activists are writing a new project.
