In Irkutsk, criminal police detained two previously convicted young women suspected of a series of frauds and thefts from pensioners. Police say they posed as employees of various state organizations, entered elderly people's apartments and, distracting the owners, stole valuables. Three victims have been identified, but police do not rule out more cases.

Employees of the criminal investigation department of the Irkutsk police department detained two young women suspected of fraud. It has been established that the 20- and 24-year-old suspects, previously convicted of theft, used a well-known scheme—they called apartments of pensioners and introduced themselves as employees of Energosbyt, the Pension Fund, social welfare agencies, or other government organizations. When the accomplices got into the homes of trusting elderly people, one of them, under various plausible pretexts, distracted the homeowners with conversation, while the other at that time stole valuables.
At present, three victims of the fraudsters’ actions have been identified. However, as police officers believe, the detainees may be involved in a number of other similar crimes committed not only in Irkutsk, but also in other cities of the region. Citizens affected by the suspects’ actions are asked to contact the following phone numbers: 29-21-40, 21-68-05, or 02.
