A major financial fraud has been uncovered in the Irkutsk district, in which, according to investigators, three bank technical employees were involved. Using their positions, they repeatedly ran the same bill through a payment terminal in Plishkino, transferring money to dummy accounts and then cashing it out. During searches, money, bank cards, real estate documents, and even trips to Thailand were seized, and two suspects have already admitted guilt and returned 4 million rubles.
The exposure of the suspects became possible thanks to cooperation between the police and the bank’s security department, which provided law enforcement officers with information important to solving the crime. The result of properly conducted operational-search measures was the detention of three technical employees on suspicion of involvement in a major financial fraud. Detectives established that throughout this autumn, the bank’s engineers, using their official positions, were stealing from their own employer. The fraudsters, aged 25-30, were making money, so to speak, out of thin air. To do this, they chose one of the payment terminals installed in the settlement of Plishkino in the Irkutsk District, for the technical condition of which they were responsible. By installing their own bill acceptor into the ATM device, the offenders, by repeatedly passing the same banknote through it, transferred arbitrary amounts to the accounts of front persons. Then, using a service card, they deleted information about the transaction, and cashed out the money.
According to the investigation, the suspects used the stolen money to purchase land plots, cars, and expensive items. One such acquisition, a Lexus car worth about one million rubles, has been seized and placed in an impound lot. At present, measures are being taken to identify and seize the remaining property and funds obtained through criminal means.
During five searches conducted in the suspects’ apartments, garages, and workplaces, cash, bank cards, real estate documents, as well as travel vouchers to the Kingdom of Thailand in the name of one of the detainees, who will likely spend the next few years in places not so far away, were seized.
Under the weight of irrefutable evidence, two young men confessed and returned four million of the stolen funds. At present, the involvement of the bank engineers in a number of similar crimes is being established.
Two of the defendants have been arrested, and the question of choosing a preventive measure for the third suspect is being decided. The investigation is ongoing.
