This happened yesterday around 3 p.m. In Irkutsk, on Oleg Koshevoy Street, traffic police officers stopped a Lexus LX-470 for driving without low-beam headlights on. During the document check, the inspector noticed numerous boxes lying on the back seat. It turned out that there were several cases of cartridges for rifled weapons of various calibers in the cabin. The man behind the wheel explained that he had been purchasing ammunition for a long time. When he had accumulated enough of it, he decided to go to neighboring Buryatia and exchange the cartridges for furs, since at this time many hunters are engaged in hunting there.
At the police department, the seized ammunition was counted, and there turned out to be more than 58,000 rounds. According to the law “On Weapons,” even with a permit, the owner is entitled to no more than 400 cartridges. The detainee had no documents at all for most of the arsenal.
An investigation is being conducted into this fact, after which a procedural decision will be made.
