In Irkutsk, under the Safe City program, bus stops will begin to be equipped with video cameras, and the first work will be on the busiest streets, Baikalskaya, Lenina, and Dzerzhinskogo. More than 130 million rubles are allocated for the program next year. In addition, since the beginning of the year, public transport stops have been segmented, route numbers will be listed on signs and boarding and alighting areas will be assigned to reduce chaotic parking and congestion at stops.
The project will be implemented within the municipal long-term target program “Safe City” from 2013 to 2017. Next year, more than 130 million rubles are allocated for the implementation of all measures under this program. The implementation of the project to equip bus stops in Irkutsk with video cameras will begin with central streets with heavy traffic: Baikalskaya, Lenina, and Dzerzhinskogo.
In addition, from the beginning of next year, public transport stops will be segmented. As explained by Yulia Gordina, Deputy Head of the Department of Road Construction, Improvement, and Transport of the Committee for Housing and Communal Services of the Irkutsk city administration, signs indicating route numbers will be installed in the pull-in bays at stops, with spaces for their stops distributed at the beginning, middle, and end of the bay. Thus, this should prevent traffic difficulties at public transport stops, which currently arise due to the chaotic parking of minibuses and buses.
