In Irkutsk, large scale winter road cleaning continues, Irkutskavtodor clears 612 streets and lanes in all city districts, and bridges and overpasses are maintained by a separate enterprise. Daily dozens of machines and hundreds of workers go out, and the main snow removal and ice control work is done at night to avoid disrupting traffic. This winter 69.4 thousand tons of snow have already been removed from city streets.

612 streets and roads located in all four districts of Irkutsk are cleared by Irkutskavtodor, including streets and roads of district significance, as well as driveways in residential areas. The total area is about 9,500 thousand square meters. Every day, the enterprise deploys an average of 80 units of equipment on the line, as well as 175 people.
The cleaning of bridges and overpasses located within the city is handled by the MUP Bridge Maintenance Service - a total of 35 facilities (an area of more than 142 thousand m2). On these works, an average of 20 units of equipment and 35 people are involved every day.
As noted by Acting Deputy Mayor – Chairman of the Committee for Housing and Communal Services of the Irkutsk administration Andrey Abramchik, winter road maintenance is the most difficult and labor-intensive, since it is necessary not only to clear the main roads, but also to combat ice by treating the roads with special materials, as well as to ensure snow removal. For this purpose, snow-removal equipment and anti-icing agents are used. Since 2012, liquid reagents, which have already proven their effectiveness, as well as sand-salt mixtures, have been used throughout Irkutsk. Sidewalks are cleared both manually and with mechanized means, and are also treated with anti-icing materials.
The main snow clearing and removal work is carried out at night so as not to create traffic jams on the roads of Irkutsk. The enterprises operate around the clock. This winter, 69.4 thousand tons of snow have been removed from the territory of Irkutsk. It is taken to a special snow dump located in the area of Maratovsky Meadows in the Right Bank District of Irkutsk.
