The Irkutsk Computeriada festival is starting in Irkutsk, it will be held at BSUEL and the Irkutsk Aviation College and will bring together schoolchildren of different ages for IT competitions. Participants will take part in in person and remote contests from programming and web development to creating computer drawings, photo and video reports, and working with an interactive city map. This year new venues joined the festival, and the number of participants in some contests has grown noticeably.

The festival events will be held on the premises of Baikal State University of Economics and Law (BSUEL) and the Irkutsk Aviation Technical School (IATS). The preparation for and conduct of the Festival are coordinated by the Municipal Educational Institution of Additional Professional Education “Center for Information, Methodological and Psychological Support of the Activities of Municipal Educational Institutions of the City of Irkutsk” and Municipal Budgetary Educational Institution Lyceum No. 1 of Irkutsk.
The procedure for holding the festival:
For students in grades 8-11, the festival is held in three stages:
Stage I: qualifying (remote) round – the network game “The Place of IT Technologies in the Modern World” in all festival categories. It took place on January 18, 2013, and 975 students in grades 8-11 from the city’s educational institutions took part. As a result, 427 school students were selected to participate in the in-person stage of the competition program.
Stage II: in-person round – direct participation in the competition program (which includes 12 contests) by students of the city’s educational institutions who passed the qualifying round.
Stage III: Festival of the Best Works (public defense of works recommended by the jury based on the results of the contests).
Within the computer festival, five remote contests are held.
From January 21 to 27, 2013, 161 teams (5 people per team) of grades 3-4 took part in the remote contest “Compyutoshka-2013” (805 people in total).
On January 25, 2013, the remote contest for students in grades 5-7 “CompJunior-2013” took place, in which 1,081 school students participated.
This year, resource centers in Irkutsk for the introduction of free software joined the festival’s activities, organizing for schoolchildren the contest “Layout Designer” with elements of distance learning.
In the contest “Information Pathfinder” for children with disabilities, the number of participants has almost doubled compared with last year, and 40 children will begin the contest on February 1.
The team contest “Interactive Map of Irkutsk” has already become a tradition; it involves students in grades 5-11 with the aim of popularizing little-known historical places in the city of Irkutsk. This year, teams from 16 educational institutions will add information about the historical places of our city to the interactive map of Irkutsk posted on the festival website.
The “Irkutsk Computeriada” festival is growing in scale every year. Today there is no school student in our city who does not know about this grand event. Every student has the opportunity to try their hand at any area of IT technologies. Thus, at the festival, the children create computer drawings, develop websites, lay out publications, program, design, take part in a user relay, compete in searching for information on the Internet, make photo and video reports, and work with fragments of the interactive map.
