A new vehicle inspection station has opened in Irkutsk to ease the load on the old site on Chelyabinskaya Street, where drivers still wait in hours long lines. At the new station in Zaton, up to 28 cars can be checked at once, and the whole inspection takes only 15 to 20 minutes, with the computer making the decision on issuing the pass. Why many motorists are not hurrying there yet and how the traffic police plan to change the situation, in the report.

A new vehicle inspection station has opened in Irkutsk, but many drivers are not going there. They still stand in multi-hour lines at the old one, which is located on Chelyabinskaya Street.
Nearly 200,000 cars are registered in Irkutsk. To undergo vehicle inspection, many car owners routinely go to Chelyabinskaya Street, where a special station has been operating for more than ten years.
- At the moment, it is not fully coping with the inspection of vehicles, - says Senior Traffic Police Inspector of the Irkutsk Internal Affairs Directorate Sergei Shvin.
To remedy the situation, another vehicle inspection station opened in December last year in the Zaton area - at 1 Irkut Embankment.
Up to 28 cars can be accepted here at the same time. To fully inspect one vehicle and receive an inspection coupon, it takes 15-20 minutes. Inspectors enter information about the condition of the vehicle into a database, after which the computer makes a decision - whether to issue a coupon or not.
The human factor is minimized because the measured parameters are transmitted by diagnostic equipment to the computer. The inspector conducting the check has no opportunity to influence the result.
After the inspection, the driver is issued a diagnostic card with the vehicle’s characteristics. If the driver fixes the faults within 20 days, the repeat inspection will be done free of charge. The Irkutsk traffic police promise to open similar stations in every district of the city.
