In Irkutsk, police and bomb technicians cordoned off Litvinov Street after a report of a suspicious object near the Main Directorate building. It was an F1 anti personnel grenade with a fuse, later taken to a range for destruction. The finder said he found it in a storage room after a relative died, and police are investigating and remind people not to touch such objects themselves.
To ensure the safety of citizens, the sidewalk and roadway of Litvinov Street were immediately cordoned off by officers of the internal affairs agencies. Bomb disposal experts from the Irkutsk OMON arrived at the Main Directorate building. After inspection, specialists concluded: the suspicious object was a live F-1 anti-personnel grenade with a fuse. It was later taken to a training ground for destruction. As the owner of the find, a 30-year-old resident of the regional center previously convicted of theft, explained, he found the grenade while clearing out a storage room after the death of a close relative. How the pensioner could have come into possession of an explosive device is now being investigated by criminal police officers. An inquiry is being conducted into the incident.
The Irkutsk Region Police remind the public that such behavior is unacceptable. If any suspicious objects or devices are found, it is unacceptable to handle them yourself. In such situations, one should take the utmost precautions and immediately contact the police. The experts who arrive will independently determine the nature and danger of the find, take measures for its subsequent disposal, and ensure the safety of others.
As a reminder, a similar incident occurred in November 2012. Then, a 35-year-old man brought a shell and a mine found in the storage room of his grandfather, who had long since passed away, to Police Department No. 3 of the Irkutsk City Police. During the inspection, it was established that the finds were a training aircraft shell and an anti-personnel mine, which do not pose a threat to others.
