In Irkutsk, five areas were surveyed where a municipal ski base and biathlon complex could appear, from Akademgorodok to the Plishkinsky forest. Among the options are sites suitable for trails of different levels, and by Lake Yunatka two trails could even be placed, for athletes and amateurs. The administration also said what the future complex could be, from a simple ski base to a modern facility with lighting, a hotel, and an artificial snow system.
Employees of the Irkutsk city administration surveyed five areas where a municipal ski base and biathlon complex could be located: Akademgorodok, Ershovskaya Gora, Kayskaya Gora, Melnichnaya Pad, and the Plishkinsky Forest. In the area around Lake Yunatka, it is possible to build two trails: one for athletes and one for amateurs. The Plishkinsky Forest area is convenient for creating trails where athletes could train in biathlon, orienteering, mountain biking, and other sports. The base project can be either the simplest (a ski base with storage, a trail, a shooting range, and a general physical training area – maintaining such a facility would require at least 4 million rubles a year) or ultra-modern – with lighting, a cafeteria, a hotel, and equipment for producing artificial snow. Developing the ski complex project will require allocating five hectares of land and bringing electricity and water supply there.
