The Irkutsk Regional Court sentenced Artem Anufriev and Nikita Lytkin, found guilty of a series of brutal murders, attempted murders, and abuse of the bodies of the dead. According to investigators, from December 2010 to March 2011 they committed six murders, including a child, and nine attempted murders. Anufriev received life imprisonment, Lytkin 24 years in prison, and they were ordered to pay 2.75 million rubles in compensation.
Based on the materials of the criminal case, consisting of 35 volumes, from December 2010 to March 2011 Artem Anufriev and Nikita Lytkin committed 6 murders, including that of a child, and a series of attempted crimes against citizens. In addition, they were accused of desecrating the bodies of deceased people and organizing an extremist community.Law enforcement agencies have grounds to believe that the defendants were adherents of extreme extremist views and united on the basis of misanthropy. This is also confirmed by the forensic examination. Among the physical evidence for this is extensive correspondence on the Internet, video recordings of the crimes and mockery of corpses.
One of these recordings was found on a memory card and brought to the district police officer by a relative of one of the “hammerers.” The police officer immediately reported to the department leadership, and that same day operatives detained the suspects. At that time Anufriev was 19 years old, Lytkin had only recently turned 18.
In addition to the murders, they are charged with nine attempted murders. Among their victims are a 12-year-old boy whom they beat to death on a hill, a deceased employee of the Institute of the Earth’s Crust, as well as a pregnant woman who survived only by a lucky chance.
During the trial, the defendants repeatedly changed their testimony, tried to shift the blame onto each other, and invented mythical accomplices in order to delay the proceedings.
Today the Irkutsk Regional Court found the defendants guilty and imposed the following punishment: Anufriev – life imprisonment in a special-regime penal colony, Lytkin – 24 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony, with the first 5 years to be served in prison.
The court also ordered the convicts to pay 2 million 750 thousand rubles as compensation for moral damages to the victims and the relatives of the deceased.
