In the Irkutsk region they are discussing the major overhaul of the icebreaker Angara and expanding its museum exhibition. Authorities stress that the monument is planned to be preserved not only as a historical and cultural heritage site, but also as an important place for festive and leisure events for residents of the Solnechny neighborhood.
According to Irina Filippova, the icebreaker is the only place in the neighborhood where festive and leisure events are held for residents.– We are very interested in preserving the Angara icebreaker both as an object of historical and cultural heritage and as a place where thematic meetings, evenings, and concerts can be held, - she noted.
As Sergei Dubrovin emphasized, the Government of the Irkutsk Region is currently working on the issue of carrying out a major overhaul of the facility and expanding the museum exhibition. For this purpose, it is proposed to transfer the icebreaker to the jurisdiction of the Regional Museum of Local Lore. Only in this case will the regional Government have the opportunity to finance expert and repair work on the icebreaker.
As the Deputy Governor noted, the monument requires restoration. It can be carried out on site or in Port Baikal, where the necessary equipment is available. In any case, its permanent mooring will be in the Solnechny neighborhood.
– The interests of residents will be respected, and the museum premises will continue to be used as a venue for public events, - Sergei Dubrovin said.
