Irkutsk is preparing to celebrate City Day with a bright and rich program. The celebration will begin with a football match between stars and the city team at Lokomotiv Stadium, then continue in Kirov Square. Guests will enjoy children's areas, a gala concert, a carnival procession with more than 100 groups, musical performances, and greetings from famous artists. The celebration will end with a colorful 10 minute fireworks display from the Lower Embankment.

As the head of the Department of Culture of the Irkutsk city administration, Olga Aksamentova, said, City Day will begin with a football match between the “Artist” team and the Irkutsk city team.
Popular singers and musicians will play on the “Artist” team: Yuri Loza, Vladimir Presnyakov (Sr.), Alexey Glyzin, Viktor Saltykov, Nikolai Trubach, the “Ex-BB” group, as well as well-known Russian football players Yegor Titov, Alexander Shirko, Yuri Gavrilov, Sergei Kiryakov, Vadim Evseev. The Irkutsk city team is still being formed, and it is planned that it will be headed by the city mayor Viktor Kondrashov. The match, which will begin at Lokomotiv Stadium at 10:00, will be commented on by Viktor Gusev. Before the match, Russian football stars will hold a master class for young football players of Irkutsk. Admission to the event is free.
The main venue for the celebration will be Kirov Square. At 11:00, interactive areas for children will begin operating here; at the same time, a gala concert of creative groups that won and placed in the annual city festival of children’s and youth creativity “Spring Drop” will begin. At 14:00, the Irkutsk city carnival will start. According to the chief director of the carnival, Roman Sintotsky, more than 100 groups will take part in the carnival procession this year. The carnival procession will go from July 3 Street to Chkalov Street. This year, the columns will not go around Kirov Square, but will go straight along Lenin to Chkalov. Near the building at 14B Lenin Street, there will be a jury, whose composition is being formed. It will choose the best column. The winner will receive a cup and the right to open the carnival procession in 2014. Last year, about five thousand people took part in the carnival procession. This year, the number of those wishing to participate has reached almost 7,000 people. As Roman Sintotsky noted, this is due to the fact that participation in the carnival procession is free this year.
After the carnival ends at 17:30, a music program from MCM radio will begin, featuring popular youth groups “130th Quarter,” “Extroverts,” etc. At 19:20, singers and musicians from the “Artist” team will congratulate Irkutsk on City Day. After that, Irkutsk DJs will take the stage with a music program from Record radio. At 23:00, the sky over Irkutsk will be illuminated by a colorful 10-minute fireworks display, which will be launched from the Lower Embankment.
