In Irkutsk, they are discussing building a 1200 seat classical music concert hall. Famous architects have joined the project, and the authorities promise to choose the best site and secure funding. Four possible sites are already being considered, and funding sources include regional and federal budgets, as well as organizations and private companies. Denis Matsuev said the project could bring Irkutsk to the level of major European cities with the best concert halls.

- The world’s best architects responded to our proposal to build a concert hall. We are ready to provide any site that the specialists like, - Sergei Eroshchenko said.
The head of the region noted that funding for the project will be guaranteed, since there are already quite a number of organizations and private enterprises that would like to take part in this project. In addition, the financing scheme for the construction at all stages will be examined in detail.
The architects said that they have already begun work on the sites and intend to decide on the best option in the near future. Sergei Eroshchenko asked them to assess all the possibilities of each site and noted that all preliminary conditions for the project need to be discussed with Denis Matsuev.
-We have a unique chance to complete the formation of the city’s cultural center, which needs special care to preserve and enhance the cultural and architectural traditions of Irkutsk, – the Governor emphasized.
As was noted at the meeting, in 2012 the Autonomous Non-Commercial Organization “East Siberian Scientific and Creative Center of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences” carried out analytical research to justify the location of a 1,200-seat classical music concert hall in the city of Irkutsk. Four site options were selected: on Karl Marx Street in the area of the Drama Theater, the CES district, the area between Sedova, Kozhova, 25 Oktyabrya, Krasnykh Madyar streets, and the left-bank center near the Academic Bridge.

Within the framework of the long-term target program “Development of Social and Engineering Infrastructure in the Irkutsk Region for 2010-2014,” 5 million rubles are allocated for design and survey work for the construction of the concert hall in 2013. For the construction of the facility, funds from the regional budget in the amount of 464.8 million rubles are allocated for 2014. In addition, the construction of the hall has been submitted for federal funding under the program “Economic and Social Development of the Far East and the Baikal Region for the Period up to 2018” for 2014-2016.
- Teamwork is the key to the success of the entire work. Irkutsk is reaching the level of major European cities, where the best concert halls have recently been built. Professionals came to Irkutsk to build the concert hall: Yasuhisa Toyota has built more than 90 theater and concert halls in the world, and Marina McKenna and Christopher Kous designed the uniquely sounding Koerner Hall in Toronto, - Denis Matsuev noted.
