Russia is imposing strict limits on tobacco sales. Retail sales are banned in cultural, educational, sports and medical institutions, on transport and in government buildings, and within 100 meters of schools. Tobacco sales to minors and with their involvement are also banned. From June 1 smoking will be banned in many public places, from government offices and universities to restaurants, trains and stations. Violations bring fines, and police will enforce the law.

The federal law establishes an extensive list of restrictions and prohibitions on the sale of tobacco products.
In particular, according to the document, the retail sale of tobacco products is prohibited in cultural, educational, sports, and youth institutions, in places where medical services are provided, on all types of public transport, and in premises occupied by state authorities and local self-government bodies.
Retail trade is prohibited at a distance of less than one hundred meters in a straight line from the nearest point bordering the territory designated for the provision of educational services. The sale of tobacco to minors and by minors themselves is also prohibited.
Starting June 1, smoking in public places will also be prohibited: in government institutions, universities, schools, hospitals, stadiums, restaurants, trains, and at railway stations.
Aleksey Evladov reminded that liability for violating the requirements of the federal law is established by the Code of the Russian Federation on Administrative Offenses. Illegal sale of tobacco products entails the imposition of an administrative fine on citizens of 1,500 to 2,000 rubles, and on legal entities of 30,000 to 40,000 rubles.
Enforcement of the “anti-tobacco law” is assigned to the police.
About 17% of all deaths in Russia today occur due to smoking-related causes. Our country leads in the number of teenage smokers. 40% of adults smoke every day, and everyone else, including children and pregnant women, are forced passive smokers. Tobacco smoke causes cancer, lung diseases, and cardiovascular diseases not only in smokers, but also in those around them.
