The Triumphal Arch Moscow Gates, recreated by Yevgeny Devochkin for Irkutsks 350th anniversary, has been officially transferred to the Museum of Irkutsk City History. Restored with his own funds in just three months, the monument became one of the citys symbols and is now officially city property.
Let us recall that the triumphal arch “Moscow Gates” was built by Evgeny Devochkin with his own funds in 2011 for the 350th anniversary of Irkutsk. The monument was recreated on the new Angara embankment at its historic location. The triumphal arch immediately became one of Irkutsk’s landmarks.“Due to circumstances, the investor who was supposed to restore the monument ‘Moscow Gates’ refused his obligations at the last moment. Evgeny Devochkin took the bold step of recreating the monument in a record short time—three months. No one believed that this was possible. But Evgeny Gennadyevich kept his word and gave Irkutsk residents a wonderful gift for the anniversary. Initially, there was an agreement that the Moscow Gates would be donated to the city. However, the process of registering the land and the structure as property took almost two years. A few days ago, the registration and transfer procedure was completed, and the Moscow Gates were transferred to the Museum of the History of the City of Irkutsk,” Viktor Kondrashov commented on the situation.
