The beach on Yakobi Bay in Irkutsk is not yet ready to open, those responsible for its preparation have not been assigned, and the former tenant refused to maintain the city part of the shoreline. Meanwhile, authorities have already solved the trash cleanup issue, from June 7 a specialized company will work at the beach, and Rospotrebnadzor will publish water test results on June 10. Soon the Irkutsk administration must decide who will be responsible for equipping the beach area.

“At the moment, the beach is not ready for opening, and those responsible for its preparation have not been identified,” summarizes Alexander Stepanov, state inspector for small vessels of the GIMS department of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Irkutsk Region. “According to the information we have, the organization operating this territory has refused to organize and maintain the public part of the beach, and this requires expenses. The Irkutsk administration needs to determine who is responsible for this.”
Until now, the beach has been maintained by a private company that won the municipal competition for the improvement of the Yakobi Bay area. In fact, the beach is divided into two zones: commercial and citywide. The commercial zone covers several dozen meters, however, the tenant’s obligations for routine maintenance apply to the entire shoreline.
Previously, at the beginning of June, the tenant was already preparing the beach area for the swimming season, but this year the Department for Environmental Protection and Ecological Safety identified several serious violations. As Deputy Head of the department Natalya Stupina said, the tenant had not even begun equipping the beach, and the trash containers were overflowing, despite the fact that on May 29 a large cleanup day took place on the bay shore — the environmental campaign “Green Islands of Irkutsk.” Then 4 dump trucks of trash were removed from Yakobi Bay.
The issue related to garbage collection in the “public” part of the city beach has already been resolved by the Irkutsk administration — starting June 7, a specialized waste collection enterprise will begin work at Yakobi Bay. The results of the chemical composition of the water samples will be published by the regional office of Rospotrebnadzor on Monday, June 10. And the question of who will be responsible for equipping the beach area at Yakobi Bay will soon be considered by the administration of the city of Irkutsk.
