The Wi-Fi epidemic project in Irkutsk expands residents access to free internet. The city already has wired and wireless access points, and new Wi-Fi spots will appear this summer.

The goal of the “Wi-Fi Epidemic” project, implemented by the regional branch of the all-Russian public organization “Young Guard of United Russia,” is to provide the residents of Irkutsk with free Internet access through wired and wireless connections to the global network.
“In my opinion, Internet accessibility is becoming a norm of life. For many, these are not just entertainment services, but also work, as well as the ability to promptly solve various issues,” says the regional coordinator of the project, Sergey Matveev. “For example, I actively use the network on my phone and constantly interact with colleagues via internet applications.”
The project is supported by leading telecommunications operators. This summer, several more locations with free WiFi will open in Irkutsk.
