In Irkutsk at the Warm Lakes, where a second body was recently found, emergency workers and GIMS representatives held a preventive raid and installed No swimming warning signs. They handed out water safety leaflets and reminded people of the danger of swimming in unsuitable places, especially with children nearby. Rescuers say such raids should be held daily, since many still underestimate the risk, including while intoxicated.

Employees of the Department for Civil Defense and Emergency Situations of the Irkutsk City Administration, together with representatives of GIMS, conducted a preventive patrol today to install warning signs reading “Swimming Prohibited” at the reservoir where the second body was found. On the “Warm Lakes,” several hundred Irkutsk residents with children and pets were resting that day. While handing out leaflets on safe behavior in the water, rescuers drew the attention of young women to the fact that their children were in the water at a distance that the parents would not be able to cover if the child began to drown. Two groups of vacationers in cars, after the rescuers’ warning, nevertheless chose to move to the safer shore of Yakobi Beach.
According to Tatyana Baranova, such patrols need to be carried out daily, since most vacationers do not realize the danger of swimming in hazardous places, often while intoxicated.
