In Irkutsk, police and emergency workers saved a 74 year old man who was on the edge of a fourth floor balcony. He says he does not remember how he got there and did not intend to take his life.

Today at around 7 a.m., the duty unit of Police Department No. 5 of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Directorate for the city of Irkutsk received information about an attempted suicide. The report said that an unknown man was trying to jump from a balcony.
The duty officer immediately sent patrol and post service crews, private security, and traffic police to Chekhova Street, to building No. 3, as well as a district police officer and a criminal investigator to clarify the situation.
It turned out that the troublemaker was a 74-year-old local resident. The pensioner was standing on the balcony of the 4th floor and was about to jump down. However, thanks to the timely intervention of employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the police, tragedy was avoided. The elderly man was taken down from the balcony and sent to a psychoneurological dispensary. During the investigation, it became known that the Irkutsk resident, who lives alone at home, may suffer from a rare disease — sleepwalking. It was presumably this ailment that caused the commotion. In his sleep, the man climbed over the balcony railing and stood on the brink of death for about 5 minutes. This time was enough for law enforcement officers to respond promptly to the situation and save the man. Later, the citizen told the police that he did not remember how he ended up on the balcony, and added that he had not intended to take his own life.
At present, the pensioner is undergoing treatment in a hospital, and internal affairs officers are conducting the appropriate investigation into the incident.
