A five day environmental campaign ended on Olkhon, with over 200 volunteers from across Irkutsk Region taking part. They each collected five bags of trash a day on average.
The campaign lasted 5 days, and more than 200 volunteers took part in it — avid tourists, environmentalists, journalists, representatives of the tourism industry, and simply caring residents of the region. To participate in the campaign, volunteers came from different parts of the Irkutsk region. Transportation was provided free of charge by the organizers. Each volunteer collected an average of 5 bags of trash per day. The bags of trash were then removed from the island using garbage trucks. The organizers plan to create a monitoring team and, together with inspectors from Pribaikalsky National Park and representatives of the municipal administration, carry out monitoring to identify accumulations of trash.
Throughout the summer season, volunteers and public figures will monitor the cleanliness of the forest near Saraysky Beach and collect information about dumps on Olkhon in order to carry out a large-scale cleanup on Olkhon in September.
