The investigation into the case of the financial institution that stopped paying deposits in January 2008 has dragged on for several years. 1700 people were recognized as victims, and the case files total about 2 thousand volumes. Charges were brought against Reshetnikov and his partner Alexander Kuznetsov, but the review of the case is still not complete. Why the proceedings are stalling and how the court limited the time for studying the materials, in the article.

Let us recall that the financial institution stopped making deposit payments in January 2008. On this fact, the preliminary investigation authorities opened a criminal case. 1,700 people were recognized as victims. The case materials amount to 2,000 volumes.
In 2010, after gathering sufficient evidence, the Main Investigative Directorate brought charges against Reshetnikov and his partner Alexander Kuznetsov. From that moment, the process of familiarizing all interested parties with the case began. Two and a half years later, this procedure has still not been completed.
According to the norms of the Criminal Procedure Code, the defense has the right to familiarize itself with all the materials of the criminal case in full. Strictly following Russian legislation, the investigative authorities fully ensured this right for Kuznetsov, Reshetnikov, as well as their lawyers, since without their review the case cannot be sent to court.
Initially, Kuznetsov stated that he intended to represent his own interests, as he is a qualified lawyer. A year and a half later, the investigation filed a motion with the court to impose a time limit on his review of the materials. The court granted this motion and ruled that the accused must complete his review of the case by August 2, 2013. A few days before the appointed deadline, he brought in two lawyers to defend him, which allowed him to begin studying the materials almost from scratch.
