A urban planning conference was held in Irkutsk

Experts say a city can be made comfortable and attractive for residents and tourists only through joint work of authorities, business, and the public. The main problem in Irkutsk is aging infrastructure, with resources nearly exhausted and no new construction. The material describes steps that could change the situation in the next five years, from city programs and redevelopment to improvement, housing repairs, and preserving wooden architecture monuments.

As specialists note, in order to “make the city comfortable and attractive for residents and tourists,” it is necessary to make efforts to solve many problems in all areas of our lives. The development of engineering infrastructure, repair of the housing stock, transport, ecology, construction — all of this is interconnected, and in each sector there are priority tasks, without solving which the city will not be able to develop. Results can be achieved only through the joint efforts of the authorities, business, and the public.
According to the deputy mayor, chairman of the Committee on Urban Planning Policy Denis Voronov, the most acute issue in the city is the development of engineering infrastructure. Today, 60-80 percent of the housing being built in Irkutsk and the Irkutsk District is commissioned thanks to the existing infrastructure of the regional center. Its capacity has long been exhausted, and nothing new is being built.
The city can begin to solve the problem by receiving regional and federal funding. Then the capabilities of the construction industry, and therefore of the city as a whole, will increase significantly.
What can be done to improve life in the next five-year period? City target programs can answer this question. The construction sector will develop through the development of built-up areas. Housing and communal services will equip new parks, build roads, take on the improvement of the private sector in earnest, and renew the rolling stock of municipal enterprises. The city will continue the reconstruction of monuments of wooden architecture and the repair of the housing stock. An important place is also given to creating an environmentally clean city.
