The first group of cadets from the Irkutsk Higher Military Aviation School has already been sent to Voronezh, and the relocation of the entire school is to take place in the coming days. The Defense Ministry decision has caused a strong reaction in the Irkutsk region. Earlier, cadets, teachers, and the public protested, and the indefinite hunger strike by civilian employees has already ended. The fate of about 2,000 cadets remains in focus, as well as staff employment and the future use of the schools property.

The first group of cadets from the Irkutsk Higher Military Aviation School was sent to Voronezh on Wednesday. This was reported by the deputy head of the school for scientific work, Yuri Kotlov.
The second-year students were sent first. The relocation of the cadets began in accordance with a directive from the Main Staff of the Russian Air Force. The redeployment of the IVVAIU cadets is to be carried out between January 7 and 12. In total, there are about 2,000 cadets at the school. As for the school's technical equipment and teaching staff, Y. Kotlov noted that the relocation schedule is still being drawn up.
The indefinite hunger strike, started on December 4 by 18 civilian employees of the Irkutsk Higher Military Aviation School in protest against the Russian Defense Ministry's decision to relocate the school to Voronezh, was ended on January 7. Members of the initiative group said that the action was stopped because it was pointless to continue.
The press service of the governor and the government of the Irkutsk Region said that a commission continues to work on resolving the problems related to the school's relocation. It includes representatives of regional ministries, the Irkutsk city administration, and regional offices of federal services. One of the commission's main tasks is to address issues of employment for civilian staff, the operation of housing stock, and land resource management. In total, 910 civilian employees work at the school.
As reported earlier, on December 1 the Russian Ministry of Defense decided to relocate the IVVAIU to Voronezh. This decision was received negatively by the cadets, the school's teaching staff, and the public of the Irkutsk Region. The Irkutsk Higher Military Aviation School is the only higher military educational institution of the Russian Air Force east of the Urals. During its existence, more than 70,000 specialists have been trained at the school. Appeals against this decision by the Defense Ministry were sent by the governor of the Irkutsk Region, the Legislative Assembly, and the regional branches of the United Russia and Communist Party of the Russian Federation parties, among others.
