The suspects are now under arrest, and investigators are checking their possible involvement in other similar crimes.
Last Sunday at about 5 a.m., a 25-year-old resident of the regional center contacted Police Department No. 7 of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Directorate for the city of Irkutsk. He said that on Karl Liebknecht Street he was attacked by two men, who took his mobile phone, gold items, and bank card, and fled in an Opel Astra. The police’s work in searching for the criminals was greatly facilitated by the fact that the victim remembered the license plate number of the foreign car. Less than an hour later, a traffic police crew stopped the car matching the description given in the alert on Jambula Street. Inside were two young men, aged 23 and 24, and during a personal search police found the victim’s belongings on them.
Both suspects are unemployed. One of them came from the Usolsky District. The second is a native of Irkutsk.
A preventive measure in the form of arrest has been chosen for the suspects. The stolen items will be returned to their owner in the near future. According to police officers, the arrested men may be involved in similar crimes.
