In Irkutsk, the Glamour Grandma courses ended, where women aged 58 to 79 learned style, self care, nail design, perfumery, and health basics. The project has united 193 people, and new groups open in February.

Charm, elegance, femininity — such words were spoken about women on this day. Classes were held throughout October and November, three times a week. The participants were aged from 58 to 79. All the instructors worked as volunteers. The participants had to master theory and practice in five areas. Employees of the Irkutsk Region Fashion Designers Association, Elena Serebryakova, Olga and Nina Mokritskie, conducted classes on style and image; teachers from the Millennium Center for Vocational Education spoke about the latest in nail design and introduced the women to the intricacies of hair care. The participants learned about health and longevity from physiologist and ISU lecturer Natalia Kopylova. A course on body and facial care was conducted by cosmetologist Irina Pupko. Specialists from Yves Rocher talked about the features of choosing perfumes and decorative cosmetics.
The idea to organize the “Grandma Glamour” courses was born with Irina Pupko, a member of the Rotary Club “Baikal-Eco,” during the citywide “Week of Informal Education” for older people. The idea immediately resonated and received support from the administration of the city of Irkutsk.
“We are sure that at any age a woman can be beautiful,” says the author of the course idea, project director Irina Pupko. “This raises her self-esteem and makes a woman happier in family life. For this, knowledge and, of course, motivation are needed.”
During the classes, the women undergo an almost fairy-tale transformation, says runway instructor Olga Mokritskaya. “It’s not just about a new hairstyle or expertly applied makeup. They change, begin to love themselves, and the world responds,” she says.
20 participants of the project took part in the final runway show. One of them is Tamara Leontyeva.
As of today, 193 people have already completed training in the three “Grandma Glamour” groups. Registration for new courses of the “Irkutsk – a Learning City” projects will be organized from February 3 to 5, 2014, at the Public Relations Department of the administration of the city of Irkutsk.
