By December 20, the installation of the Christmas tree, festive illumination, and the construction of the ice town will be completed. In the square, in addition to the 20 ice figures of athletes already standing there, figures of fairy-tale characters, a children’s maze, and large and small slides will be installed.
From December 27 to 31 and from January 3 to 6, interactive games and activities for children will be held near the main Christmas tree from 13:00 to 16:00. On January 7 at 13:00, the mass public celebration “Christmas in Irkutsk” will take place in the square.
In addition to the central Christmas tree in Kirov Square, Irkutsk traditionally plans to install 6 main Christmas trees in the districts using funds from the city budget. The “green beauties” in festive decoration will be installed in Komsomolsky Park, on Postyshev Boulevard, in the Solnechny microdistrict, at the Fortuna shopping area, in Paris Commune Park, and others. In addition, many Christmas trees will be installed in the courtyards of residential buildings. Educational institutions, enterprises, and organizations in the city will also set up their own festive Christmas trees.
Contests have been announced for the best New Year decoration among retail businesses, the best New Year toy, and the best courtyard Christmas tree.
