At the Sports Glory of Priangarye museum in Irkutsk, the Olympic flame bowl was handed over, and it will now become part of the exhibit and be available to all visitors. Soon an Olympic torch and information about torchbearers, including many famous athletes and public figures from the region, will also appear here. The new museum addition is meant to recall Priangarye's link to the Sochi Olympics and inspire young visitors to achieve in sports.

«The Olympic Flame bowl symbolizes our participation in an international event — the Olympic Games in Sochi. We will support and cheer for the athletes representing the Irkutsk Region at the Olympic Games,” noted Pavel Nikitin, Minister of Physical Culture, Sports and Youth Policy of the region. “Many people have seen the Olympic Flame bowl only from afar; now residents of the Irkutsk Region have a unique opportunity to come to the museum and see the symbol of the Olympics.»
“The museum is a sports home, and I am glad that today we are handing over the Olympic Flame bowl. Now both children and adults will be able to see it. I hope that it will inspire children to new sporting achievements,” said Olga Kurban, director of the Trud sports complex.
The museum “Sports Glory of the Angara Region” was opened as part of the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the physical culture and sports organization of the Irkutsk Region and the Trud stadium in the spring of 2013. The museum features about 200 sports photographs and more than 250 exhibits — medals, cups, certificates, sports uniforms. The museum’s exhibition tells about the people who stood at the origins of the development of physical culture and sports in the Irkutsk Region, about great athletes and their achievements in all-Russian and international competitions.
In the near future, the museum’s exhibition will include the Olympic torch and information about the torchbearers, which will change every month. In total, 240 people became torchbearers in the Irkutsk Region. Among them are well-known people — three-time Deaflympics champion Alexander Khaustov, silver medalist of the Olympic Summer Games in London Daria Dmitrieva, People’s Artist of Russia Denis Matsuev, three-time Paralympic world champion in powerlifting Svetlana Akhmetova, participant in the Olympic Games in Athens and Beijing Elena Zadorozhnaya, and others.
