In Irkutsk, a pensioner fell victim to phone scammers who posed as police and said her grandson had allegedly been in a traffic accident. Believing them, she transferred 30 thousand rubles to the specified account, and only then learned she had been deceived. Police are searching for the suspects and remind residents to be especially careful with such calls and to check the information with relatives immediately.

Yesterday, a resident of the Oktyabrsky District of Irkutsk city contacted the police duty station. The pensioner said that an unknown man had called her home phone, introduced himself as a police officer, and informed her that her grandson had caused a traffic accident. The fake policeman suggested resolving the situation, of course, with money, for which the woman was to transfer a certain amount to the account he specified.
Extremely upset, the pensioner went to the nearest bank branch and deposited 30,000 rubles into the account dictated by the fraudster. Only then did the trusting Irkutsk woman think to call her grandson and realize that she had fallen victim to scammers.
At present, the suspects are being sought.
The police remind citizens to be vigilant when receiving phone calls from unknown people who introduce themselves as law enforcement officers and report some misfortune involving someone close to you. This is a trick used by fraudsters. Immediately call the relative mentioned in the phone conversation. Under no circumstances should you carry out any cash transactions. Immediately report information about such a call to the police department or by calling the trust line: 21-40-60 or 02.
