In Irkutsk, in the first three days of the New Year holidays, the number of fires doubled compared with last year. 8 fires have already been recorded, including in homes, on transport, and in a warehouse. After the fire on Rabochaya Street, where two apartments and part of the roof burned, city services have stepped up resident briefings and remind people of the most common causes of fires and fire safety rules.
A year ago, during the first three days of the New Year holidays, 4 fires were recorded in Irkutsk, while this year there were 8, including two vehicle fires, one warehouse fire, and five fires in residential buildings in the city. One of the latest was a fire on Rabochaya Street in the Pravoberezhny District of Irkutsk, where two apartments and two-thirds of the roof burned down. The management company “Kommunalnye Sistemy” is now insulating the radiators to prevent the heating system from freezing. On January 9, the Chairman of the Committee for the Administration of the Pravoberezhny District, Yevgeny Drokov, will meet with residents of the affected building to address issues related to repair work in the house.
Until January 9, the “Irkutsk Emergency Rescue Service” and the “2nd Detachment of the Federal Fire Service for the Irkutsk Region” have intensified their work on instructing city residents about fire safety measures. City services are promptly monitoring information about fires in Irkutsk.
Fires can be caused by lamps wrapped in combustible materials (paper, fabric), as well as light fixtures with their shades (diffusers) removed. It is strictly forbidden to use homemade electric heating devices and to leave electric heating devices switched on unattended. It is dangerous to use electric wires and cables with visible insulation damage, to use damaged sockets and switches, and to use electric heating devices without thermal protection devices. In addition, order must be maintained in electrical switchboards, near electric motors and starting equipment – combustible and flammable materials must not be stored or kept inside them or nearby.
When using heating stoves, they must not be left unattended or entrusted to children. It is dangerous to place fuel and combustible materials on the stove hearth sheet and to use flammable and combustible liquids to light stoves. Overheating the stove and using ventilation and gas ducts as chimneys can lead to a fire.
