A new clinic for children with cystic fibrosis opened at the Ivano Matrenin Hospital, where they will be helped with kinesitherapy and special equipment. The Islands charity fund bought compression vests that clear the lungs with vibration without extra strain, and are suitable even for infants. Now Irkutsk can provide better care for young patients with this rare disease.
The chief physician of the Ivano-Matreninskaya Hospital, Duma deputy Vladimir Novozhilov, and young patient Yevgeny ceremoniously cut the ribbon. The new cozy office is intended for patients with cystic fibrosis - a rare genetically determined disease in which a person, from birth until the end of life, is forced to take enzymes to digest food, inhale various medications, and periodically requires hospitalization for injections. Children here will be treated with movement so that mucus does not stagnate in the lungs and rupture of lung tissue does not occur.
The charitable foundation “Ostrova” helped purchase such expensive equipment. It includes compression vests in different sizes. Through vibration, they allow the lungs to be cleared without excessive strain. There are even devices for infants.
“Through this vibration, the mucus detaches from the bronchial tree, moves up the trachea, and when it is already here, the child can easily spit it out without any coughing. Previously, we could not identify which bacillus the child was carrying. But now we can understand this by collecting the mucus. And we don’t have to wait long. Some have staphylococcus, some have Pseudomonas aeruginosa; it is important for us to distinguish between them,” explained kinesiotherapist Yevgenia Korkina. Yevgenia was specially trained in Moscow in the technique of kinesiotherapy. Now in Irkutsk, they will be able to provide high-quality medical care to children suffering from cystic fibrosis.
