In Irkutsk, during the month of sanitary cleanup, a series of cleanup days will be held with districts, ecologists, management companies, businesses and public organizations. 1.5 million rubles have been allocated to eliminate illegal dumps, and the city has already bought gloves, trash bags and prepared waste removal vouchers. Special attention will be given to the private sector, and on April 26 all caring Irkutsk residents are invited to the citywide cleanup day.

Throughout the entire month of sanitary cleanup, the Department of Road Activities will hold a weekly headquarters meeting with the participation of representatives from all districts, the environmental department, and management companies. Special attention is being paid to the private sector. 1.5 million rubles have been allocated for the elimination of unauthorized dumps.
“The city administration has purchased more than 30,000 pairs of gloves and more than 115,000 bags for collecting trash. The necessary equipment is being handed over to the district management committees, where anyone wishing to take part in cleanup days will also be helped with organizational matters,” Pavel Rusetsky said.
The city landfill will accept about 16,000 m3 of solid household waste using vouchers, which have also been distributed to the districts. As Pavel Rusetsky noted, representatives of various commercial enterprises in the city are also invited to take an active part; in previous years, they not only took part in cleanup days but also independently organized waste removal.
Various public organizations are not staying on the sidelines either. The chair of the Irkutsk branch of the All-Russian Society for Nature Conservation, Honored Ecologist of the Russian Federation Vera Shlyonova, said that they support cleanup days every year. This year, young people will take the most active part, and a student eco-week will be held: lectures, a quest, cleaning parks and squares — a whole series of events is planned.
“We must live in an environmentally favorable environment. And when we see trash in the streets, we feel ashamed before ourselves. And we can fix this ourselves: by taking part in environmental campaigns, and also simply by not littering!” Vera Shlyonova said.
A citywide cleanup day will take place on April 26, and all concerned Irkutsk residents can take part!
