In Irkutsk in summer 2014, city flowerbeds will be decorated with various flowers, and more than 1200 pots of petunia will appear on the streets. Also planned are new green sculptures and plantings of roses and Drummond phlox in the square by the Okhlopkov Theater. The article also describes plans for 2015, to move to more durable landscaping with perennials and ornamental shrubs, to cut costs and reduce risks for plants.

A diverse range of species and varieties of flower seedlings will be displayed in the city flower beds: dahlias, tagetes, petunias, kochia, alyssum, salvias, marigolds, etc. In addition, during the summer of 2014, changes are expected in the city’s floral landscaping: plantings of roses and Drummond’s phlox are planned on the grounds of the square near the Okhlopkov Theater, covering an area of 126 m 2.
Also this year, it is planned to install compositions of green sculptures in the city of Irkutsk - “bridal bouquet” (on Dekabrskikh Sobytiy St., near the registry office), “seven dwarfs” (on Postyshev Boulevard). Familiar green sculptures will also be arranged for Irkutsk residents: on Kozhova St., opposite the Vesna sports complex; a bear and seal sculpture at the roundabout on Baikalskaya St. near the hydroelectric dam; a green sphere sculpture on Baikalskaya St. near the square on the 50th Anniversary of the Formation of the USSR Square, a green elephant sculpture on Gagarin Boulevard; a sphere sculpture on Chkalova St.; three bears in Sedov-Lenin Square; a green firebird sculpture in the square near the Kuibyshev monument.
More than 1200 flowerpots with petunias will be installed on the city streets.
In 2015, design solutions will be considered for the future replacement of annual flowers with perennial ones, as well as the use of ornamental shrubs to complete the floral landscaping compositions. This will make it possible to reduce the budget funds spent on growing seedlings in greenhouse conditions, and the risk of plant loss due to fluctuations in weather conditions.
