In Irkutsk, construction continues on an extension to kindergarten No. 116. The two story frame is up, finishing and site landscaping are underway. The new building will hold 7 groups, sports and music halls, a speech therapist room, and 201 children. 11 playgrounds and a sports area will be added. Mayor Viktor Kondrashov also ordered improved safety and landscaping around the kindergarten for children and parents.

On July 28, Irkutsk Mayor Viktor Kondrashov visited the construction site of the extension to Kindergarten No. 116. Work began in January of this year. To date, the frame of the two-story building has been completed, interior finishing work is underway, and the grounds are being landscaped.
The mayor instructed the builders to increase the height of the fence around the preschool so that teenagers from neighboring yards would not be able to climb over it, and instructed the administration of the Oktyabrsky District to landscape the area adjacent to the kindergarten and install children’s and sports playgrounds there so that they would become a center of attraction for children, rather than the territory of the preschool. In addition, the city head paid special attention to public safety issues. Since the kindergarten borders the road, the mayor instructed that the issues of arranging sidewalks and parking spaces near the preschool be worked out.
The extension building is designed for 7 groups of children aged 2 to 7. There will be a sports hall and a music room, as well as a speech therapist’s office. The floors in the groups on the first floor will be heated.
201 children will attend the new building. Parents have been notified and are eagerly awaiting the opening,
In the kindergarten yard, the builders will install 11 playgrounds and 1 children’s sports area with a special rubber surface. Under the contract, the contractor must complete all work in September.
The Department of Education of the Irkutsk City Administration has already begun work on selecting staff for the new kindergarten building. As soon as the extension is opened, 338 of its pupils, who are temporarily attending neighboring preschool institutions, will return to their home kindergarten.
Marina Kosheleva said that the waiting list for their kindergarten has been closed. Moreover, 55 children who were on the waiting list for preschool institution No. 63 will go to the extension on the kindergarten grounds.
Now, plans for next year include a major renovation of the kindergarten’s old building.
