In Irkutsk on the Lower Embankment a stone was laid at the site of the future Tsarevich Arch. Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna noted that the city carefully preserves its historical memory, and Mayor Viktor Kondrashov promised that the arch will be restored and opened next year.
On July 31, a foundation stone was laid at the observation deck of the Lower Embankment at the site where the “Tsarevich’s Arch” will later be installed. Her Imperial Highness the Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna shared her impressions after the laying of the stone: “Having come to Irkutsk, I experienced the most wonderful feelings, because it is so pleasant to see that the city truly wants to preserve and restore its historical memory, to restore precisely its monuments and churches. This, of course, makes me very happy, because I think it is a tremendous support for everyone. And it is difficult for a person to live without their own history, without their spiritual support, their spiritual faith. So I am very glad to see, and I will tell everyone, that this beautiful city has something to be proud of, and I hope that many cities will follow your example”
In turn, the Mayor of Irkutsk, Viktor Kondrashov, promised not to delay the restoration of the arch: “The project for the arch is already ready; without the project, we would not have been able to lay the stone at the place where the arch will be founded. And next year at this same time, the arch will already be restored and opened. I think that for the city’s residents this will be another historical landmark that will remind them of the history of the city of Irkutsk and demonstrate how Irkutsk treats monuments, how it restores them, how it preserves its history”
