In Irkutsk, 94 new playgrounds will be installed by September 1, with 37 million rubles allocated in the city budget. The largest will be in Baikal district park, with sports areas too.
This year, all playgrounds in Irkutsk will be installed by September 1. This was reported by the head of the Department of Road Activities of the Committee for Urban Development of the Irkutsk City Administration, Pavel Rusetsky. This year, 37 million rubles have been allocated in the Irkutsk budget for the installation of children’s playgrounds; by September 1, 94 new playgrounds of nine different modifications will appear in Irkutsk. Among the new features are playgrounds with sports modules: volleyball, football, basketball, and outdoor exercise equipment: pull-up bars, parallel bars, special benches for push-ups, and ping-pong tables. By comparison, last year 84 playgrounds were installed in Irkutsk, with the municipal contract totaling 36 million rubles; in 2012, 45 playgrounds appeared for a total of 26 million rubles.
As of today, the contractor responsible for installing the playgrounds has completed 70% of the work. This year, the municipal contract is being carried out by the Irkutsk branch of the St. Petersburg company ZAO KSIL, which has been installing playgrounds in Irkutsk for several years. Seventy-two playgrounds have already been completed, and 22 more sites are still in progress. The official deadline for completing the municipal contract is September 1; however, the contractor plans to hand over all 94 playgrounds by August 20.
The largest playground is located in the square near the transport roundabout in the Baykalsky microdistrict — here, on an area of 300 square meters, several play modules and a sports area for outdoor exercise are being installed: a pull-up bar, push-up benches, and a ping-pong table. Residents of the microdistrict have repeatedly complained that noisy groups gather in the square, leaving behind trash and empty alcohol bottles. Pavel Rusetsky noted that through the joint efforts of the mayor’s office and the deputy for the Baykalsky microdistrict, work has begun to restore order in the square: this year a playground will appear, and later a park is planned.
At present, playgrounds are located in every third of nearly three thousand Irkutsk courtyards. According to Pavel Rusetsky, the city administration will need several more years for playgrounds to appear in practically every courtyard.
