On the eve of the fourth Irkutsk Mayor's Rapid Chess Cup, the city chess club will host a meeting with two invited grandmasters, Anton Shomoev and Alexander Ryazantsev. The tournament will be held August 24 to 25 and will again bring together the region's strongest players. This year, the East Siberia Cup will also be contested by teams from several cities and a team of visiting grandmasters and talented young Irkutsk players.

On the eve of the fourth Mayor’s Cup in rapid chess, two invited grandmasters will play with Irkutsk residents in the playing hall of the city chess club. Specifically for this match, the grandmasters arrived in Irkutsk several days earlier than planned. Everyone will be able to play a game at 2 p.m. with recognized masters of chess in the hall of the city chess club, which is located at: Dekabrskikh Sobytiy, 102 (entrance from the side of the Marriage Palace).
Grandmaster Anton Shomoev is considered the best grandmaster in the history of Buryatia and one of the leading grandmasters in Siberia. Chelyabinsk grandmaster Alexander Ryazantsev is among the TOP 15 strongest chess players in the country; at one time he also became world champion among juniors and won several major international tournaments.
The fourth Irkutsk Mayor’s Cup in rapid chess, organized by the Department of Physical Culture, Sports and Youth Policy of the Irkutsk city administration together with the city chess federation, will take place on August 24-25 in the conference hall of the Courtyard Marriott hotel.
During its run, the tournament has received high praise from the Russian Chess Federation (RCF), which for the third year in a row has included it in the calendar of one of the most prestigious chess competitions of the year — the GRAND PRIX Russian Cup.
This year, the team prize — the Eastern Siberia Cup — will be contested at the Irkutsk Mayor’s Cup for the third time already, with teams from Krasnoyarsk, Ulan-Ude, Irkutsk, as well as a combined team made up of visiting “grandmasters” and the most talented young chess players of Irkutsk.
