The Irkutsk Region government and Russian Railways are preparing a three year program to improve safety at railway crossings. The region plans to build pedestrian bridges, viaducts and overpasses where truly needed to make track crossings safer and more convenient for passengers. The meeting also discussed development of Irkutsks Leninsky District. Novo Lenino should be developed comprehensively, with housing and social facilities. Plans include a school for 2500 students and a childrens clinic, whose construction they want to start this fall.

The Government of the Irkutsk Region, together with JSC Russian Railways, is developing a long-term targeted program to ensure the safety of railway crossings. This was announced today by the Governor of the Irkutsk Region, Sergey Eroshchenko, at a meeting with the workforce of the East Siberian branch of JSC Russian Railways.
The implementation period for this program should be limited to three years, and JSC Russian Railways is ready to assist in the construction of pedestrian bridges and viaducts. Proposals for the construction of pedestrian and road overpasses across railway tracks have already been presented to the municipalities of the region. They will be built only in cases where there is an objective need and no alternative safe way to cross the railway tracks exists, Sergey Eroshchenko emphasized.
The purpose of creating such junctions is to optimize traffic and passenger flows, while also addressing issues of tourist appeal, passenger convenience, and the safety of passenger transportation, the Governor noted.
The issue of developing the Leninsky District of the city of Irkutsk was also raised. In the Governor’s opinion, development in Novo-Lenino should be rapid, high-quality, and comprehensive in nature. Along with housing, the construction of social facilities—healthcare, education, and sports institutions—must be provided for without fail. For example, in Novo-Lenino, the construction of a school for 2,500 students is planned, and in the autumn of this year the construction of a children’s polyclinic for 25,000 children is planned to begin; it will also serve the suburbs of Irkutsk and dacha cooperatives.
