From October 10 to 19, the Tomsk Regional Youth Theater will tour for the first time on the stage of the A. Vampilov Irkutsk Youth Theater. The repertoire includes only the best adult and children’s productions recommended by Tomsk audiences. The project is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.Even before the official opening of the theater season, adult and young Irkutsk residents will see as many as 10 premieres on the stage of their native Irkutsk Youth Theater. For the first time, two theaters linked by a long friendship and creative plans, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, have managed to implement a major exchange-tour project and introduce the audiences of Tomsk and Irkutsk to theatrical works new to them.
For the Irkutsk audience, the Tomsk actors will present classical and contemporary plays. Each production gives the people of Tomsk its own theatrical story, but always an unforgettable and captivating one.
Contemporary drama is a worthy competitor for audience attention. Two productions in the touring project — “How I Became…” by Ya. Pulinovich and “Two Ladies Heading North” by P. Nott — appeared in the repertoire of the Tomsk Youth Theater solely thanks to audience support. Both productions by the new chief director Ilya Rotenberg grew out of sketches presented at open rehearsals. Their fate has developed in a particularly interesting way. “How I Became…” performed by the actors of the Tomsk theater has already been appreciated by audiences in Yekaterinburg and Moscow — in its short history, the production has already taken part in the International Festival of Contemporary Drama “Kolyada plays” and the “Artmigration” festival-forum.
For children, the Tomsk Youth Theater will bring the most interesting fairy tales, beloved by young Tomsk residents. Little ones will see the amazing stories of the dog Motya, who absolutely did not want to be a dog, and Little Red Riding Hood, who unexpectedly found herself in a new fairy tale created by the well-known contemporary author and director Pyotr Zubarev.
For young viewers, primary school students, the Tomsk Youth Theater invites them to watch the adventures of Vasilisa, Ivan, Koschey, and Baba Yaga — the fairy-tale characters will stage a funny romp for them to lively music. The children will also be treated to the most award-winning Tomsk children’s production — “The Legend of the Sacred Mountain,” staged by the famous director Larisa Lelyanova. This wise fairy tale has been drawing audiences for more than one year, attracting the attention not only of children, but also of adults and even theater critics.
Residents and guests of Irkutsk will have a full 10 days to get acquainted with the work of the Tomsk Youth Theater. And in Tomsk, the A. Vampilov Irkutsk Youth Theater is already expected on a return visit.
