In Irkutsk, the Museum of Fire Protection History will hold open lessons for schoolchildren, led by staff of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Voluntary Fire Society, and the training and method center. They will learn about the history of firefighting in the Angara region, see rare exhibits and videos of major fires, and learn about the firefighter profession and safety basics.
Employees of the Main Directorate and the Irkutsk branch of the All-Russian Voluntary Fire Society, together with instructors from the educational and methodological center, will conduct open lessons with school students from the city of Irkutsk; the event will take place at the Museum of Fire Protection History. The Fire Protection Museum of Irkutsk is the first fire protection museum in the Irkutsk Region; it is located at 33 Timiryazeva St. and is housed in the fire watchtower. As a reminder, it opened in the summer of this year, namely on June 10, 2014, in honor of the 200th anniversary of the fire service of the city of Irkutsk. Most of the exhibits for the museum were collected from the fire service garrisons of the region, while individual items were transferred from the Hall of Military Glory of the Main Directorate of the Russian Emergencies Ministry for the Irkutsk Region. Thanks to such lessons, school students will be able to learn more about the history of firefighting in their native region, become more closely acquainted with the present and past of the firefighting profession, and children also have the opportunity to gain additional knowledge in the field of life safety, which may be very useful later in life. The first open lesson took place on September 4, 2014, with senior students from City School No. 15. Museum staff showed the children video footage of the largest fires of recent years, demonstrated the exhibits, and spoke about the most significant events in the history of the Irkutsk fire service. Especially curious schoolchildren sat behind the wheel of a rare ZIS-5V, on the basis of which the fire truck was created. Afterwards, in the conference hall, employees of the Main Directorate introduced the students to departmental universities and explained the admission procedure.
