At the end of last week, a press conference was held in Angarsk, at which State Duma deputy of the Russian Federation Konstantin Zaitsev stated that rules for the handling of radioactive waste would be established in Russia. At present, there are no such rules in the country.Konstantin Zaitsev noted that the draft law on the handling of radioactive waste developed by the Government of the Russian Federation is the first in the entire history of the development of nuclear energy in Russia. It is assumed that the regulatory legal act will establish rules for waste handling and penalties for their violation. The draft law is planned to be adopted this year. For the Irkutsk Region, the development of this draft law is especially relevant, since the issue of building a uranium enrichment center in Angarsk is currently under consideration.
