In Irkutsk, the jury met for the best sketch of a monument to Nikolai Salatsky, with Mayor Viktor Kondrashov taking part. No winner was chosen from three projects. The jury felt none captured the famous mayor. Now they propose first choosing the site and preparing a more precise brief, then continuing work on the sculpture. The jury unanimously believes the monument to Nikolai Salatsky should be placed in central Irkutsk.

The jury meeting of the competition for the best conceptual design of a monument to Nikolai Salatsky took place today. Irkutsk Mayor Viktor Kondrashov took part in the discussion of the works.
Three sketches were submitted to the competition, created by Alexey Plotnikov (Irkutsk), the team of authors of IP Kirilov (Irkutsk), and Igor Yavorsky (Moscow). However, no winner was chosen. According to the jury members, who were acquaintances and colleagues who knew Nikolai Salatsky during his lifetime, the submitted works do not reflect the essence of his character.
In the opinion of the jury members, the traditional competition regulations should be accompanied by technical specifications and the main requirements for the design, which will provide the authors with emotional guidelines. The requirements for each specific sculpture will be developed by members of the Art Council and approved by the architectural and artistic section of the Urban Planning Council under the administration of Irkutsk.
Regarding the monument to N. Salatsky, Irkutsk Mayor Viktor Kondrashov suggested first deciding on the location for the future composition and then continuing work on the sculpture itself.
All jury members unanimously believe that the monument to the famous city head, Honorary Citizen of the city of Irkutsk Nikolai Frantsevich Salatsky, should be placed in the central part of the city. Initially, it was planned to install it on the street named after him in the Sverdlovsky District of Irkutsk.
