A new municipal pool Spartak opened in Irkutsk, a modern sports complex of 3.6 thousand square meters built for over 219 million rubles. It will serve swimmers, synchronized swimming groups, kayakers, children, pensioners and adult sports fans. The pool in Novo Lenino is already seen as important for the district, and city authorities say Irkutsk keeps investing in mass sports.

Today, the Mayor of Irkutsk, Viktor Kondrashov, visited and officially opened the new municipal swimming pool “Spartak”
Construction by the contractor company “BaikalRegionStroy” began in January 2013, and by the beginning of autumn the two-story building with an area of 3.6 thousand square meters, with a pool bowl area of 400 square meters, was technically ready to be put into operation. The new sports facility was built according to the design of the “Yunost” swimming pool by the same contractor company, and the estimated cost of the project amounted to more than 219 million rubles.
In addition to the pool bowl itself, the pool building houses spectator stands, showers, a room for group general physical training exercises, a massage room, a medical office, a classroom, a conference hall, a buffet, and the best specialized gym for swimmers in the Irkutsk Region. Even now, the pool offers Irkutsk residents the widest range of activities: in addition to swimming, there will be synchronized swimming groups and a kayaking school that moved to Irkutsk from a pool in Angarsk. The head of the Spartak Swimming Center, Eduard Rukosuev, is confident that there will be enough space in the new pool for everyone: kayakers, young swimmers, pensioners from health groups, and adult Irkutsk residents who want to swim in the pool for their own enjoyment.
In the opinion of Deputy Zhanna Eseva, the new municipal swimming pool should have appeared precisely in the Novo-Lenino microdistrict, where the largest number of teenagers live. Deputy Evgeny Savchenko noted that over the next five years the pool will not lack visitors. Over the past 2 years, three kindergartens have already appeared in Novo-Lenino, and another one is planned to open in the near future. Many young residents of the microdistrict will come to train at the Spartak Swimming Center, whose athletes defend the honor of the city at Russian-level championships.
“Over the past two years, the budget of the city of Irkutsk has spent more than 600 million rubles on sports facilities,” Viktor Kondrashov noted. “In addition to the Spartak pool, other sports facilities have already opened and are opening in our city. The covered ice rink ‘Olimpiya’ in Akademgorodok, the stadium in the Energetikov settlement, and the physical culture and recreation complex in the Yubileyny microdistrict. This year we spent more than 40 million rubles just on sports grounds. New sports modules have appeared in three schools in Irkutsk (No. 43, 63, 68). And we intend to continue investing money in mass sports, because Irkutsk is becoming a city of athletic people.”
