In Irkutsk, city libraries held the charity campaign With a kind book, do not get sick, timed to the nationwide project Books to hospitals. In December about 500 books were collected, and the first batch will go on January 21 to the Ivano Matrenin Childrens Hospital recovery ward. Libraries received childrens classics and books by favorite authors, and organizers urge residents to keep sharing read books for new good projects.

The charity campaign “With a Kind Book, You Won’t Get Sick!” was held in the city libraries with the support of the Public Chamber of the city of Irkutsk throughout last December. This campaign was timed to coincide with the all-Russian project “Books to Hospitals.” Together with readers, about 500 books were collected.
As the director of the Centralized Library System of the city of Irkutsk, Natalya Kustova, said, on January 21 the first batch (300 books) will be handed over to the convalescent department of the Ivano-Matreninskaya Children’s Clinical Hospital. It is also planned to donate books to the regional children’s hospital. Irkutsk residents who are readers of the city libraries brought children’s classic literature, books by Gennady Mikhaseko, Agniya Barto, Nikolai Nosov, and other authors.
“Everyone knows, and this is a scientifically proven fact, that books help in treatment,” said Natalya Kustova. “We are grateful to the readers who responded to our call and brought books in very good condition. In addition to this campaign, we are also implementing other projects. For example, ‘A Book for Everyone’ and ‘Bookcrossing.’ So I am appealing to the residents of Irkutsk: if you have books at home that have been read and are now just gathering dust on a shelf, bring them to the libraries. Take part in our charity campaigns!”
