In Irkutsk, due to unstable air temperatures, roof condition checks were intensified. Management companies were told to inspect and clear roofs of snow and ice weekly to reduce collapse risk. Cleanup has already been reported at 30 sites, with equipment, janitors, and sand salt mix used. Authorities also warn of upcoming stronger winds, snowfalls, and blizzards, and remind that in winter roof condition is the responsibility of owners and maintenance organizations.
The reason for the early clearing of building roofs is the unstable air temperature established in the city, which has created an increased risk of snow and ice masses collapsing from roofs. In the last days of January, letters were sent to 12 management companies from the district administration requiring weekly monitoring and cleaning of the roofs of residential buildings from snow and ice overhangs. Reports on the work done are to be submitted weekly to the district management committee. According to the management companies, in the period from January 19 to January 30, work was carried out to clear building roofs of snow and remove ice buildup on 30 sites.Five units of equipment are involved in clearing the areas in the management organizations: 3 KamAZ trucks, 2 Bobcats, and 234 janitors. A sand-salt mixture for spreading is available in sufficient quantity and will be used as needed.
From February 5, weather forecasters in the Angara region predict strengthening winds, snow, and blizzards.
The regional administration reminds that the responsibility for the condition of roofs in winter lies with homeowners or the organizations that maintain them.
