In Irkutsk, kindergarten pupils at preschool No. 151 were taught fire safety basics through games. Schoolchildren from young firefighters groups and VDPD staff led the lessons. The children joined contests, practiced leaving a smoke filled room, and learned emergency numbers, then passed a test from School No. 4 students.

In Irkutsk, at kindergarten No. 151 on Karl Liebknecht Street 41a, classes on the basics of life safety were held with the children. Schoolchildren who are members of the city’s young firefighters’ teams were meant to help instill a culture of safe behavior in children from an early age. Young firefighters, like their mentors—the staff of the Irkutsk branch of the All-Russian Voluntary Fire Society—believe that play is the best way to convey such important information to children.
Tatyana Galkova, head of the organizational and mass city department of the VFD Society, notes. – “We remind teachers and parents how important it is to know how a child imagines his or her own behavior in a proposed emergency situation, because this makes it possible not only to predict his or her actions in a real fire situation, but also to make the necessary adjustments in a playful form. The preventive work that the young firefighters’ teams help carry out makes it possible to reach a children’s audience. Preschoolers take great interest in competitions on knowledge of the rules for careful handling of fire, practice skills for exiting a smoke-filled room, learn to extinguish a ‘blazing fire,’ and memorize the numbers of emergency services.”
At the end of the game lessons, students from Irkutsk School No. 4 give an “exam” to the little firefighters: they ask them the phone numbers for calling emergency services and rescuers—“112” and “01”. By the results of the exams, all the children name them without hesitation. And, of course, each of them receives gifts from the All-Russian Voluntary Fire Society.
