From March 9 to 14, the Central Council Championship of the Physical Culture and Sports Society of Trade Unions of Russia in boxing will be held at the Trud Sports Palace in the city of Irkutsk. These competitions will be dedicated to the memory of Master of Sports of Russia, SOBR combat officer Stanislav Kopylov. This was reported at a press conference held on March 6 by the president of the Irkutsk Region Boxing Federation, Andrey Berko.
According to the Honored Coach of the Russian Federation, 26 athletes from the Irkutsk Region will represent the region at the competition in 13 different weight categories. The referees in the ring will be officials from many regions of Russia: Moscow, Kazan, Irkutsk, Tyumen, and others. It is worth noting that the well-known Irkutsk boxer — the 2002 European champion and Olympic participant Andrey Mishin — will make his debut as a judge.
- “The Internal Affairs Directorate together with SOBR have prepared a special prize for the winner in the 64 kg weight category,” said the secretary-director of the boxing sports club of the Leninsky District, Master of Sports of Russia Arkady Zhuravlyov.
In addition, as part of the event, an educational program will be prepared for the guests of the Championship, and SOBR officers will conduct a lesson in courage. School students will also be present at the competitions, where they will be shown hand-to-hand combat techniques and weapons.
- “It is precisely this lesson in courage that will give the tournament additional significance. This is patriotic education of young people, which is lacking in our society today,” noted Vladimir Kazakov, head of the supervisory board of the Irkutsk Region boxing federation “Trade Union Boxing.”
Oleg Menshikov, senior coach of the Russian junior national team, invited Irkutsk athletes to the Russian Championship. Earlier, about two weeks ago, juniors from the Irkutsk boxing federation traveled to international competitions in the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur, where they managed to take first place overall as a team.
