On March 26 in Irkutsk there will be an event dedicated to World Down Syndrome Day, a presentation of the brochure Chromosome of Love, a concert with children and a photo exhibition. Organizers from Rainbow want to draw attention to the issue, raise public awareness and support children with an extra chromosome.
The Irkutsk Regional Public Organization of Parents of Children with Disabilities “Raduga,” as part of the marathon “Children of the Sun… Children of the Rain…,” is holding an event on March 26 dedicated to World Down Syndrome Day.World Down Syndrome Day is observed around the world on March 21. This date was chosen for a reason. The number 21 symbolizes the twenty-first pair of chromosomes, and the number 3 in the month indicates that this pair contains not two, but three chromosomes. Such a genetic code denotes a special condition in a person—the presence of Down syndrome. Around the world, cultural events, round tables, and conferences dedicated to people with an extra chromosome are held on this day.
In Irkutsk, on March 26, there will be a presentation of the brochure “Chromosome of Love,” published by the parents of the public organization “Raduga” to help prevent the abandonment of children with Down syndrome, with the support of the “Irkut” corporation and the “Irkut” printing house. There will also be a concert featuring children with Down syndrome, who will demonstrate their abilities. On display for those present will be works by Irkutsk photographers Vasily Yashchuk and Anastasia Sladkova, depicting well-known people of Irkutsk together with children with Down syndrome. A play area will be organized for children.
The event will take place on March 26, 2015, at 5:00 p.m. in the banquet hall of the “Ladoga” cultural and entertainment center (109 Sovetskaya St.).
The main goal of the event is to raise public awareness about people with an extra chromosome. We invite everyone who wishes to attend, as well as individuals and organizations who are not indifferent to this issue.
